Hugs & Kisses Baby Blanket Pattern

Welcome to another exciting pattern on Yarn Inspirations Patterns! Today, I’ll be sharing the Hugs & Kisses Baby Blanket Pattern, a delightful chevron-inspired design that incorporates unique texture elements, perfect for a cozy baby gift.

This blanket showcases a blend of double crochet, single crochet, and bobble stitches to create a fun, textured pattern that works up beautifully in worsted weight yarn. The combination of X-stitches and bobbles gives the blanket its signature “hugs and kisses” look!

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn: 4000 yards of worsted weight yarn for a throw-size (54” x 66”)
  • Hook Size: 5.5mm crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)
  • Tapestry needle: For weaving in ends
  • Stitch markers: Optional but recommended for identifying peaks and valleys

Abbreviations List:

  • Ch(s): Chain(s)
  • Dc: Double crochet
  • Dc3tog: Double crochet 3 together
  • Hdc: Half double crochet
  • Hdc3tog: Half double crochet 3 together
  • Rep: Repeat
  • Sc: Single crochet
  • Sc3tog: Single crochet 3 together
  • Sk: Skip
  • St(s): Stitch(es)
  • WS: Wrong side
  • Yoh: Yarn over hook

Special Stitches:

  • Bobble: Dc5tog in the same stitch. In the next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops; repeat from 4 times, until you have 6 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all loops to complete 5 dc together. Bobbles are worked on the wrong side.
  • X-st: Skip the next stitch, dc in the next stitch, dc in the skipped stitch.

Stitch Multiples:

28 + 18. For a throw size of 54” x 66”, start with a chain of 214.

Helpful Tip:

If you have trouble recognizing the “peaks” and “valleys” of the chevron, use stitch markers until you get comfortable. This is especially useful on the hdc and bobble rows since the hdc3tog tends to lean off to the side and can be tricky to spot.
